Museum Receptionist [Internal Candidates Only] (Part Time, Fixed Term)

The University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge holds a collection of approximately two million specimens covering the entire animal kingdom, past and present, with around 5,000 on public display. The collections are designated as being of outstanding national and international significance and are vitally important for our knowledge of the history of fauna around the world, and for the history of science itself. As one of Cambridgeshire's leading visitor attractions, the Museum welcomes more than 150,000 visitors each year from across the world, including over 5,000 UK schoolchildren who participate in educational visits.

The Museum is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, friendly, and reliable part-time Receptionist to provide a visible presence within the Museum and facilitate access for members of the public and the University community.

Based at the front desk, the successful candidate will present a welcoming face to visitors during public opening hours, responding to enquiries both in person and by telephone. The post holder will also serve as the first point of contact for any safety or security issues arising within the Museum galleries. It is therefore essential that they possess the confidence, initiative, and self-assurance to deal effectively with a range of situations as they arise. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake first aid and fire warden training as part of their role.

Working hours are: 9 am - 5.30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday

Interviews are planned in the week commencing Monday, 10 August 2026 (subject to change)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 November 2027 or the return of the post holder, whichever is earlier.
