Europe's top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, has combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. As part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 400 researchers and support staff with 22 research groups. It provides a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, with state-of-the-art facilities and core scientific resources, and good links with the scientific community of Cambridge.
We are looking to recruit a highly enthusiastic and motivated full-time Research Assistant to join the piRNA team. Research on non-coding RNAs is at the heart of the group and the piRNA team studies the biogenesis and function of a plethora of different classes of short and long ncRNAs in a wide range of organisms. The piRNA team is looking to recruit a Research Assistant to carry out discovery research using nucleic acid tethered proximity labelling to undercover novel aspects of piRNA processing.
The successful candidate will undertake wet lab research as well as performing bioinformatic analysis of their own data. They will also be supporting the wider piRNA team with computational data analysis. They will have a good understanding of RNA biology, including small RNAs, experience performing RNA-FISH, nucleic acid-tethered proximity labelling, insect cell culture, immunoprecipitation, western blotting and skills in using Python and R Studio to enable comprehensive proteomic data analysis.
The appointed individual will hold a BSc degree in a relevant subject, have a minimum of six months of practical lab experience in an academic lab environment and the ability to work independently as well as within a team. The role holder must be able to write up results of their own research, present information on research progress and independently plan their day-to-day research activities within the framework of the agreed programme.
